Intensive, long-lasting hydration for dry, irritated and sensitive eyes. Preservative-free and suitable for contact lens wearers.

OptiChoice 0.4% is an advanced lubricating eye drop formulated with a high concentration of sodium hyaluronate (0.4% hyaluronic acid) to provide sustained moisture, protection and comfort for dry eyes.

Designed for people who need more intensive lubrication than standard artificial tears, OptiChoice helps stabilise the tear film, reduce friction during blinking and relieve symptoms of dryness, irritation and grittiness.

Its higher-viscosity formulation provides a cushioning layer of moisture over the ocular surface, making it particularly useful for people experiencing moderate, persistent or more troublesome dry eye symptoms.

Preservative-free, phosphate-free and compatible with contact lenses, OptiChoice is a versatile choice for everyday dry eye management.

Key Benefits

  • 0.4% Sodium Hyaluronate – a high-concentration hyaluronic acid formulation for intensive ocular surface hydration.
  • Long-lasting lubrication – higher viscosity helps retain moisture and provide sustained comfort.
  • Supports tear-film stability – helps protect the ocular surface and reduce friction between blinks.
  • Preservative-free – suitable for regular use and patients seeking to minimise preservative exposure.
  • Phosphate-free – an important consideration for patients with compromised ocular surfaces.
  • Suitable for contact lenses – can be used while wearing contact lenses to improve lubrication and comfort.
  • Convenient multidose bottle – preservative-free lubrication in an easy-to-use 10ml format.

What Makes 0.4% Hyaluronic Acid Different?

Hyaluronic acid, also known as sodium hyaluronate, is naturally found in the body and is valued in eye care for its ability to attract and retain water.

In lubricating eye drops, sodium hyaluronate helps maintain moisture on the ocular surface, supports tear-film stability and reduces friction during blinking.

OptiChoice contains 0.4% sodium hyaluronate (4mg/ml), a higher concentration than many conventional hyaluronic acid eye drops.

This creates a more viscous formulation designed to provide longer-lasting lubrication, particularly helpful for people who find lighter eye drops don't provide enough relief.

Who Is OptiChoice 0.4% Suitable For?

OptiChoice may be particularly beneficial for:

  • People experiencing moderate to more persistent dry eye symptoms.
  • Dry, gritty, burning or irritated eyes.
  • Contact lens wearers experiencing lens-related dryness.
  • People requiring frequent lubricating drops who prefer a preservative-free formulation.
  • Dryness aggravated by prolonged screen use, air conditioning, heating or windy conditions.
  • Patients requiring additional ocular surface lubrication as part of a dry eye management plan.

Why We Like OptiChoice at Illume

At Illume Eye Care, we know that not all dry eye drops provide the same level of lubrication. We like OptiChoice for its higher 0.4% sodium hyaluronate concentration, which offers a more substantial lubricating effect than lighter hyaluronic acid formulations.

It's particularly useful to consider for patients who need more sustained moisture throughout the day, including those with persistent dry eye symptoms or discomfort associated with contact lens wear.

We also appreciate that OptiChoice is preservative-free and phosphate-free, making it a useful option when long-term ocular surface comfort is a priority.

Our clinical advice: Higher-concentration hyaluronic acid drops can feel slightly thicker than lighter lubricants. Some patients appreciate the longer-lasting cushioning effect, while others prefer a less viscous formulation during the day.

How to Use

Instil one drop into each affected eye as required, or as recommended by your optometrist.

To use:

  1. Wash your hands before applying.
  2. Tilt your head back and gently pull down your lower eyelid.
  3. Instil one drop without touching the bottle tip to your eye or eyelashes.
  4. Close your eyes gently after application.

When using the bottle for the first time, turn it upside down and press repeatedly until the first drop appears.

Contact lens wearers: OptiChoice is suitable for use with contact lenses in place. If you experience persistent discomfort, discuss your symptoms with your optometrist.

Need More Than Lubricating Eye Drops?

Dry eye symptoms can develop for several reasons, including meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD), reduced tear production and ocular surface inflammation.

While OptiChoice provides intensive lubrication, eye drops alone may not address the underlying cause of persistent dry eye.

At Illume Eye Care, our Advanced Dry Eye Clinic in Ponsonby, Auckland, our optometrists use detailed tear-film assessments and diagnostic technology to understand why your eyes are dry.

We offer personalised treatment plans, including home care, prescription treatments and advanced in-clinic therapies such as IPL, Low-Level Light Therapy, Tixel and LipiFlow. We also provide a specialist Contact Lens Clinic for patients experiencing ongoing contact lens dryness or discomfort.
