Advanced, preservative-free dry eye relief with long-lasting hydration and a refreshing cooling sensation.
Rohto® Dry Aid Preservative-Free Eye Drops are designed to provide fast-acting, long-lasting relief from dry, gritty, burning and irritated eyes.
Featuring Rohto's advanced Liquidshield™ Technology, these lubricating eye drops help support all layers of the natural tear film, reducing moisture loss and improving comfort throughout the day.
Unlike conventional artificial tears that primarily replace moisture, Rohto Dry Aid combines hydrating polymers, lipid-supporting ingredients and electrolytes to help maintain a more stable tear film.
The preservative-free formulation is supplied in convenient single-use 0.5ml vials, making it a practical option for people who require regular eye lubrication or prefer to avoid preservatives.

How Does Rohto Dry Aid Work?
A healthy tear film relies on a balance of moisture, mucins and oils to keep the surface of your eyes comfortable and your vision clear.
Rohto Dry Aid's Liquidshield™ Technology uses a combination of ingredients to support these components:
Povidone and propylene glycol: Help hydrate the ocular surface, retain moisture and reduce friction between the eyelid and eye during blinking.
Sesame oil and castor oil derivatives: Provide lipid-supporting components that help reduce tear evaporation.
Poloxamer: A moisture-retaining polymer that helps support tear-film stability and lubrication.
Electrolytes: Calcium and magnesium help support the natural balance of the tear film.
Together, these ingredients provide a multi-action approach to lubrication, helping relieve dry eye discomfort.
Who Is Rohto Dry Aid Preservative-Free Suitable For?
Rohto Dry Aid Preservative-Free may be particularly useful for:
- People experiencing mild to moderate dry eye symptoms.
- Patients with evaporative dry eye or meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) who benefit from additional tear-film lubrication.
- People who require regular lubricating eye drops and prefer to avoid preservatives.
- Dryness aggravated by screen use, air conditioning, heating or windy conditions.
- People who enjoy cooling eye drops but want a preservative-free formulation.
- Contact lens wearers needing lubrication before or after lens wear.
Why We Like Rohto Dry Aid at Illume
At Illume Eye Care, we know that dry eye is rarely a one-size-fits-all condition. Different lubricating eye drops have different properties, and choosing the right formulation can make a significant difference to comfort.
We like Rohto Dry Aid for its multi-component approach to tear-film support, combining water-retaining lubricants with lipid-supporting ingredients.
The preservative-free single-use format is particularly appealing for patients who want to minimise preservative exposure while maintaining effective lubrication.
Rohto also has a distinctive mild cooling sensation, which some patients find particularly refreshing.
Our clinical advice: Although Rohto Dry Aid Preservative-Free contains no preservatives, it does contain menthol. Patients with particularly sensitive or inflamed ocular surfaces may prefer a non-cooling formulation.

Rohto Dry Aid Preservative-Free vs Regular Rohto Dry Aid
Both formulations use Rohto's Liquidshield™ Technology to provide lubrication and support the tear film. The main difference is the packaging and preservative content.
Rohto Dry Aid Preservative-Free: Supplied in individually sealed single-use vials, ideal for people wanting to avoid preservatives.
Regular Rohto Dry Aid: Supplied in a convenient 10ml multidose bottle containing a preservative, suitable for people who prefer a reusable bottle.
When Eye Drops Aren't Enough
Dry eye symptoms can be caused by several underlying conditions, including meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD), reduced tear production and ocular surface inflammation.
While lubricating drops provide important symptom relief, they don't necessarily address the underlying cause.
At Illume Eye Care, our Advanced Dry Eye Clinic in Ponsonby, Auckland, our optometrists use detailed tear-film assessments and advanced diagnostic technology to identify what's contributing to your dry eye symptoms.
We offer personalised treatment plans, including home care, prescription therapies and advanced treatments such as IPL, Low-Level Light Therapy and LipiFlow.
